Long before bitcoin, people argued that money should hold its value. This tee rings that bell, with a small Bitcoin symbol to show where the idea lives today.
Sound money is a phrase from the 1800s, when it described currency backed by gold or silver that governments could not easily inflate. The Austrian economist Ludwig von Mises later wrote about the principle of sound money as a protection for ordinary people against governments tampering with the currency. Bitcoiners picked the term up because bitcoin's supply follows fixed rules that no central bank can change. The hand bell is a pun on sound, and on the old saying sound as a bell.
A thoughtful, understated shirt for economics readers, gold fans turned bitcoiners and anyone who enjoys a clean pun. Two words and a bell work at the office, a book club or a meetup, and the phrase is familiar enough that non-bitcoiners often nod along.
In the classic sense, money is sound when its supply is hard to expand, so savings keep their purchasing power over time. Gold played that role for centuries. Bitcoin's supporters argue its fixed issuance schedule gives it the same quality in digital form. That is a viewpoint, not financial advice.
It is a play on words. A ringing bell makes sound, and sound as a bell is an old phrase for something in perfect working order. The tilt and the short lines show the bell mid-ring, so the pun works at a glance.
It is the Bitcoin sign, a capital B with two short strokes through the top and bottom, printed in orange and tilted slightly. It ties a general economics phrase to bitcoin without shouting, and it is the only place the shirt names the coin.
