Every 210,000 blocks, the new bitcoin paid to miners is cut in half. This tee marks the next cut, expected around 2028, before it happens.
Bitcoin's code halves the block subsidy, the new coins paid to the miner of each block, every 210,000 blocks. That works out to roughly every four years. The reward began at 50 BTC in 2009 and dropped to 3.125 BTC at block 840,000 in April 2024. The next halving is expected around 2028 at block 1,050,000, when it falls to 1.5625 BTC. The exact date depends on how fast blocks arrive, so trackers keep updating their estimates.
For people who count down to network events the way others count down to holidays. The orange 2028 is the loudest part, so it reads well across a room and starts conversations at meetups. Wear it now, and again on halving day.
Nobody can name the day yet. It is expected around April 2028, when block 1,050,000 is mined, but blocks arrive at slightly uneven speeds, so the estimate shifts by days or weeks. Halving trackers update their countdowns as the date gets closer.
It is scheduled to drop from 3.125 BTC to 1.5625 BTC per block. Miners also earn transaction fees, which the halving does not touch. This is the published schedule in bitcoin's rules, not a forecast of price or mining profits.
The picture is the event: one reward becomes half a reward. The small motion lines show the halves drifting apart, and the coin stays plain so the orange year printed below carries the meaning.
