The story

Behind the Loose Lips Lose Sats tee

Old wartime posters begged people to keep quiet, and bitcoiners borrowed the rhythm to say the same about holdings. An orange zipper pull hangs above the pun, mouth firmly shut.

Loose lips sink ships is a slogan from World War II, when US posters urged people not to chatter about sensitive information. Sources differ on the earliest poster, but the idea was plain: careless talk can hurt. Bitcoin's version swaps ships for sats and applies it to privacy. Plenty of bitcoiners prefer not to announce what they hold, and a zipper pull is the perfect symbol for it.

Wear it where you plan to say very little: a family dinner, a party with curious coworkers or a conference badge line. The slogan does the work of changing the subject, and the zipper tells everyone the topic is closed.

Questions

About this design

What is the original Loose lips sink ships slogan?

It is a US World War II slogan from posters that warned people against idle talk. The earliest wording was loose lips might sink ships, and the War Advertising Council is usually credited with the government version. Accounts of the very first poster differ, so the shirt just borrows the well-known rhythm.

Why do bitcoiners care about keeping quiet?

Many prefer privacy about what they own, since announcing it can make you a target for scammers or just endless questions. The shirt jokes about that habit. It is a pun, not security advice, and it makes no promise that staying quiet keeps anything safe.

Why a zipper pull and not a padlock?

A zipper is a lighter, funnier image for closing your mouth, and it fits the lips in the slogan. A padlock would be a common bitcoin symbol, so the zipper pull gives the shirt its own look while staying a single clean orange line drawing.
