The story

Behind the Give Sats, Not Socks tee

Socks are the classic holiday gift, and bitcoiners who have opened one pair too many have a request for next year. This tee answers with a candy cane and a two-line message, plus a small Bitcoin symbol to make the point.

A sat, short for satoshi, is 1/100,000,000 of a bitcoin, so one whole coin is 100,000,000 sats. Sats are a handy unit for small amounts, which makes them an easy thing to bring up when a gift list gets stuck on socks. The joke is a holiday one and nothing more. The candy cane is a plain striped drawing with no text, and the shirt makes no claim about how to buy, send or gift bitcoin.
