Some people keep ticket stubs from concerts. Bitcoiners keep a block height. This shirt marks the fourth halving as if you had been in the room, with a stub in orange outline to prove it.
Bitcoin halves the reward for adding a block every 210,000 blocks, about every four years. The fourth halving took place at block 840,000 in April 2024, shortly after midnight UTC on April 20, and cut the reward from 6.25 to 3.125 bitcoin per block. Earlier halvings came in 2012, 2016 and 2020. The next is expected around April 2028, and the shirt is a record of this one.
Wear it to a meetup, a conference or anywhere a block height counts as a conversation starter. The ticket stub frames it as an event you attended, which is a fair way to describe a halving, even if the only seat was in front of a screen.
At block 840,000, in April 2024. Block times vary slightly with time zones, but the milestone was reached early on April 20 UTC. It cut the block reward from 6.25 to 3.125 bitcoin, the fourth reduction since the network started.
It is expected around April 2028, at block 1,050,000, though no one can name an exact date because block times drift. At that point the reward is scheduled to fall again. Our next bitcoin halving guide explains how the schedule works.
No. It marks a date and a block number, nothing more, and it makes no forecasts. The ticket stub treats the halving as an event worth remembering, not a promise. Nothing here is financial advice, and the print has no numbers about value.
